LSQA Earns ANAB Accreditation for FSMA

LSQA Earns ANAB Accreditation for FSMA

ANAB has issued its first accreditation based on ISO/IEC 17021-1 under the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Accredited Third-Party Certification Program to LSQA S.A., a certification body based in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Through the ANAB accreditation process, certification bodies demonstrate competence to audit and certify management systems of a facility and conformance with and implementation of requirements that meet stipulations under the FSMA program.

LSQA is now approved to audit and issue FSMA certifications, which are used:

  • By importers for establishing eligibility of foreign suppliers for expedited review of food entry in the United States.
  • For supplier verification activities under the Food Safety Verification Program and Preventive Controls rules.
  • When required by FDA as a condition of entry under specific circumstances related to safety risks.

ANAB also offers FSMA accreditation based on ISO/IEC 17065 for product certification bodies through its legacy ANSI Accreditation programs. To achieve accreditation by ANAB to audit and provide certification for FSMA, certification bodies must meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1 or ISO/IEC 17065 and FDA’s 21 CFR Subpart M.
