In the wake of a devasting E. coli outbreak, Chipotle Mexican Grill recently announced a new food safety initiative, which is being led by Dr. Mansour Samadpour, chief executive of IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group, an ANAB-accredited organization.
Chipotle reportedly is implementing industry-leading food safety and food handling practices in its restaurants and throughout its supply chain. Key points of the new program include high-resolution testing of all fresh produce, including DNA testing before supplies are shipped. It includes end-of-shelf-life testing to ensure produce is handled appropriately at the restaurants. There also is an initiative to use data to push for continued improvements with supply-chain partners, and to ensure employees understand the company’s standards for food safety and food handling.
IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group, a food testing and consulting firm that advises on food-safety procedures, is accredited by ANAB to ISO/IEC 17025.
