GFSI on Food Safety and Third-Party Certification

The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) has released a series
of white papers developed by the GFSI Technical Working Group on
Regulatory Affairs. They cover the following themes:
The four papers are also collected in one document, Enhancing Food Safety
Through Third Party Certification.
The documents were developed as the first stage in the work plan of
this group, whose objective is to develop strategic food safety
positions and educational materials in support of GFSI and to
utilize the collective experience of the working group members and
best available science, to provide review and assessment of key
food safety-related regulatory issues which impact the use of third
party certification as it relates to the GFSI remit. The membership
of the working group consists of retailers, manufacturers,
producers, food service operators, certification bodies, and
industry association representatives.
GFSI drives harmonization and convergence in food safety schemes
around the world through a rigorous benchmarking process. By
driving the continuous improvement process in the recognized
schemes, when they are then applied in the marketplace through a
third-party certification process, GFSI supports global efforts to
advance food safety and public health.
